Ferrous and Nonferrous Scrap Metal Recycling in Dallas

Ferrous Metal Recycling in Dallas
The term “ferrous” is derived from the Latin word ferrum which means “containing iron.” Ferrous metals contain small amounts of elements including carbon and nickel which give them a high tensile strength and in most cases gives them magnetic properties.

Ferrous metals include:

Low-carbon steel:  This type of ferrous metal is fairly malleable and is used in the manufacture of nuts, bolts, screws, construction girders and a number of other common metal products

Medium-carbon steel: Less malleable than low-carbon steel, it is frequently used to manufacture a variety of automotive parts including gears, axles and crankshafts

High-carbon steel:  Frequently used in the manufacture of springs, high-strength wire and blades, it is the strongest and hardest of all carbon steels and contains small amounts of silicon, manganese, copper and silicon.

Tool steel:  Also known as “die steel”, this type of ferrous metal resists heat, abrasion and corrosion.  It is commonly used to manufacture machine parts, dies and cutting tools as well as injection molded items

Cast iron: This strong but brittle ferrous metal resists corrosion and oxidation and is used in the manufacture of a variety of household and lawn and garden items.

Wrought iron: Strong and ductile, at one time this type of recyclable metal was commonly used to manufacture wire, nails, farm, lawn and garden equipment. Wrought iron is no longer commercially produced in the U.S.—replaced by milled steel.

Nonferrous Metal Recycling in Dallas
Nonferrous metals do not contain iron and are therefore not magnetic and not susceptible to corrosion. Nonferrous metals include a number of naturally occurring and alloys that make them ideal for use in the manufacture of a wide variety of construction, automotive and household items including:
• Aluminum cans and containers
• Lead plumbing parts
• Copper tubing
• Zinc
• Nickle
• Tin
• Titanium
• Manganese
• Beryllium
• Precious metals like silver, gold and platinum
