Joel Litman
President and Co-owner
A graduate of the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism, Joel Litman has been in the recycling industry since 1984. He got his start in the business working with his father at Daltex Waste Material Co.
Today, Joel and his brother Craig are the co-owners of Texas Recycling/Surplus, Inc. In 2003, the brothers also founded Action Shred, an information and document destruction company.
Joel focuses on his customers’ needs and doesn’t rely on machines, technology or computers to forge relationships. His early work in the public relations and advertising industry taught him the importance of adding a personal approach to business relationships—something he continues to believe in strongly today.
“The personal touch is very important,” Joel says. “I’ve learned how to be responsive and quick and, at the same time, follow through by dotting my Is and crossing my Ts.”
In addition to his responsibilities at the company, Joel volunteers his time with the industry trade association, the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI). He is an officer in the organization's national Paper Stock Industries chapter (PSI). In the community, he is a past president of Jewish Family Service of Dallas, and is on the national board of the Association of Jewish Family & Children's Agencies (AFJCA).
Craig Litman
Vice President and Co-owner
A true sportsman at heart, Craig Litman always goes the extra mile to make his customers happy. As co-owner of Texas Recycling Surplus, Inc., Craig puts his strong motivational skills and formal training as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) to good use. Along with his brother Joel, Craig shares ownership of Action Shred, an information and document destruction company.
After graduating from the University of Texas in Austin, Craig spent several years working in the accounting and tax field before joining his father and brother Joel in the recycling business at Daltex Waste Material Co. in the late 1980s.
In addition to using his accounting expertise, Craig works with Joel to carry out all aspects of the business including sales, marketing, logistics, business strategy and production.
“I have always been very active in sports and realize there are many similarities between teams and businesses. Both require strong leadership to be successful,” Craig says. “Business is a team sport. It’s a passion that Joel and I share.”
Craig coached girls’ soccer for eight years and learned a thing or two about how a person can lead a team to victory.
Both Joel and Craig are originally from Kansas City, Mo., and moved to Dallas in 1972.
